Living Creations wins four 2021 KVBC awards. Living Little Blossom, Living Sugar Rush, Living Pink & Rose and Living Pinky Promise are the big winners.

Living Creations cultivars won four KVBC awards in September 2021. Hydrangea paniculata Living Little Blossom (‘LCNO8'), Living Sugar Rush ('LCNO11'), and Living Pink & Rose ('LCNO14') are all silver award winners. The icing on the cake is a gold KVBC award for Living Pinky Promise ('LC NO12'). We are very proud of all of our winners.

Who are the KVBC?
The Royal Boskoop Horticultural Society (KVBC) has celebrated new plant varieties since 1861. The society’s awards recognise innovative plants which add value to the market and meet the highest standards of its independent jury.

The inspection process
The KVBC jury carries out regular field inspections to assess the plants’ ornamental value and other qualities. Dozens of KVBC inspectors come to check on the new cultivars at our nursery’s Test Centre several times a year. They make sure that they see the hydrangeas in every season and in all sorts of weather conditions. To be eligible for an award, the plants must achieve excellent marks every time. That’s why we’re so proud of our cultivars’ reports for 2021:

This is a neat, compact Hydrangea paniculata with sturdy branches. Living Little Blossom remains small throughout its life. Its stand-out feature is that it is easy to force; plants can be sold in bud from the end of May / beginning of June, well before the deluge of other cultivars. The flowerheads contain about 75% sterile flowers, which gradually turn a dark pinkish red. It works very well as a potted plant.

This trim cultivar is well suited to landscaping projects because it can be grown into a sphere or inverted pyramid. Its leaves are a shade or two lighter green than other cultivars. Living Sugar Rush is unusual because its sterile flowers do not turn pink or red as they mature. They may take on a slight pinkish glow, but still look white.

Living Pink & Rose 'LC NO14' – silver award
Living Pink & Rose is a vigorous plant with long, sturdy branches. This hydrangea most closely resembles 'Renhy' (Vanilla-Fraise), but it has sturdier stems, especially as a young plant. The flowerheads are also slightly more regular in shape. KVBC jury members particularly liked the fact that its branches are of varying lengths. This allows the flowerheads to develop at different heights. Despite its size, this paniculata retains a certain elegance.

Gold KVBC award-winner, Living Pinky Promise, can best be described as a smaller, neater version of DVP Pinky (Pinky Winky), with the shape of the Silver Dollar. Living Pinky Promise is beautifully compact, with attractive, sturdy branches. Its white flowers develop a lovely pinkish red blush as the season progresses. The dark stems provide additional colour interest.
